wow, thanks much for the support guys, I didn't realize this thread was even here. This is my first time logging on the "new" site because of things with my dad. Just to bring you all up to speed, my pops is only 66 years old, but has been obese my entire life. He developed diabetes 20 or so years ago and due to complications from diabetes and hypertension, he went into kidney failure and then on to hemodialysis about 3 years ago. He was also diagnosed with CML (a blood borne cancer, in remission for 5 years now on daily chemo) about 6 years ago. Last winter, dad had a minor foot injury that led to 7 surgeries on his right leg, ending up with a below the knee amputation. 2 Saturdays ago, he ended up back in the ICU where he lives (Pocono Mountain area). He was admitted to the ICU in septic shock and had his left leg amputated as an emergency. Dad then spent 6 days on the verge of passing away and with severe dementia in the ICU. His condition stabilized enough for us to move him this past Friday to a long term acute care facility in NJ. He is still not nearly the man he was just 10 days ago, his mentation is far from normal and he is extraordinarily weak. Each day my brothers and I are seeing more small hints of our dad coming back, but he has an enormous amount of fighting left to do. My biggest concern right now is his quailty of life and restoring his cognitive function. I will likely be on the boards a bit less for the time being, as visiting with Dad is now my 3rd job; but I wanted to let you guys know that your kind words and prayers are truly appreciated, and I'll keep you all updated on Dad's status.
thanks again

Steve
