I've been trying to track down a mysterious rattle that's been absolutely driving me crazy!:tantrum1: Well, with the help of my wife I finally found where its coming from. The annoying rattle is coming from the right-side dash speaker. If I tap on the top of the speaker grill I can hear the rattle. My question to you guys is this. Does the dash speaker grill just pry up and give access to the speaker? I'm thinking that the speaker is just loose or something. Anyone remove these before?

If noone has ever removed one of these here, then I'll start posting this question on some of the other forums.

Yea I am the one with experience when it comes to this. Just use something small and pry up the speaker cover. Seems to me its loose.

I'm assuming your talking about the speaker itself being loose, not the grill itself.

Pax did you fix it??

No. It's not the speaker itself that's loose. What I found is that the removable snap-in section of the rear part of the dash(where the speakers are located) is vibrating at the rear of it where it meets the windshield. If I wedge something between the dash and the a-pillar, then it keeps the dash panel from vibrating, thus no rattling noise. I haven't figured out how to keep the dash panel from vibrating yet. I can wedge something between dash and a-pillar, but I don't know what I would want to use as a wedge. I was also thinking about possibly putting some rubber foam wedges underneath the removable panel that is high enough to come in contact with the dash panel, thus keeping it from vibrating. Any ideas what might work?

how thick of an object do you need to wedge in there (there was no way to make that sound normal LOL)

maybe a thin piece of weather stripping?

If you look at the gap between the dash and the a-pillar molding I think its about 1/8". I can probably go buy some black rubber foam and cut a sliver small enough to wedge in between the two. I'm just not sure I want to do this or not...will depend if it can be seen through the windshield enough to look like some sort of rig job.

I think you should be OK if you got some black weather stripping...or some other squishy black foamy substance

(yeah the sad thing is this is a totoally non sexual thread LOL)

even if you dont "wedge" it in there...if you the piece hits that instead of a hard service it may not vibrate and be so annoying

That's probably what I'll try first. I'll make the pieces small enough to not stick out or look obvious from looking though the windshield. I've got 1 piece of cardboard stuck between the 2 pieces right now and the noise is just about gone. I might also try and put some of the black foam material that's got sticky tape on the bottom side of it under the removable dash panel in the corner. If I can get the heigth right on this, then the panel would actually come in contact with the foam and keep it from vibrating too much.

Come on, you got something that size that you can shove in there I KNOW IT!! :ROTFLMAO:

Seriously, what Stevo said, some whether stripping or rubber foam would be fine, why the dilema? You worried it might look bad?? This may sound ghey but what about getting a dash cover? One of those black dash mats??

Well yes actually. I don't want to look through the windshield and see a bunch of stuff cramed between the dash and a-pillar molding. Now if the foam is black and is pushed down far enough it might not really be that visable at all. I'm not a dash cover kind of guy, but I know you've got one. Post-up a pic of it and let me see it. Is the dash the same in the Maggy's as in the Charger?

Rip away on the dash cover, I'm with ya, I HATE IT!! Seriously. It was the first thing I got and I got it for one and one reason only ... so I could get my radar detector set up quickly for a long road trip I took right after I got the car. Seriously.

The dash is high enough for the radar det to sit on so it can see over the cowl and wipers and hood (it's actually a good spot for it) so with a dash cover on and some velcro on the bottom of the detector to make it stick to the cover it's a quick and easy set up. I've since got a mount to attach it to the review mirror and was gonna toss the dash cover but ... I found I like the way it muffles the dash speakers somewhat (the sound is too overpowering bouncing off the windshield right into your face) so I kept it. It's just plain black, doesn't say anything, I'll look to see if I have any good pix of it ...

By the way, did you look at the other side of the dash to see if there's something in there that maybe the rattling side is missing?

Nope. Prying up the dash to get the clips to release is sort of a pain in the ass, plus you get an uneasy feeling that your going to snap or break that removable dash panel. The panel on the right-side where the noise is coming from is fully snapped in place and nothing seems to be missing. If you bang on the speaker grill though...you see the panel vibrate and it makes the same noise I hear when I driving on rough roads. For some reason, this panel isn't secured tightly enough to keep it from vibrating and making noise.

You know I'm having a hard time visualizing this ... got any pix??
