It's a lot better than St. Anger lol There is a return to Metallica's old school foundations on this CD but Lars seems a bit too much at times and overpowers some of the tunes. The CD has some good tracks but something is still missing on a general level. I feel it has a mediocre overall feel to in it's entirety in the sense that I'm not playing it as much as I've done with their other CDs. Even with some of their best guitar work, the lyrics are lacking. I'm not a fan of track 3.

Maybe I was expecting too much. Some good ones are "That Was Just Your Life" and the following song "The End Of The Line" are both awesome tunes and make you realize what allowed this band to rise to the top. They will both make you remember how good the band use to be. A few pretty cool guitar solos sound good when blasted and driving down the highway.
One cool tune on the CD is a near ten minute long instrumental piece "Suicide & Redemption".
All in all though, it is still a very decent CD. The band is back on track it seems... If they keep on this way and someone can get Lars to tone the shit down a tad..the next will be better. Worth the buy? I think so. With so little out there that I'd actually want to buy, the cd does make for some good driving music for sure and a few of the tunes will probably end up on top of the metal charts. I'd

Track listing for Death Magnetic:

1. That Was Just Your Life
2. The End Of The Line
3. Broken, Beat & Scarred
4. The Day That Never Comes
5. All Nightmare Long
6. Cyanide
7. The Unforgiven III
8. The Judas Kiss
9. Suicide & Redemption
10. My Apocalypse

Good to know! I am a Metallica fan!

Have to rip this from somewhere and add it to my 400 gigs of music.

Thanks for the review!!

I haven't heard many songs on this CD, except for what's played on the radio. Those songs are ok, but nothing like the old school stuff.

Milan, I would have to agree. I posed a review similar to yours on the red site when it first came out. They are getting back to their roots, but still have a little further to go. At least they got rid of that snare drum and back to a bass drum. It's pretty good.

Yep, they're definitely onto something but haven't nailed. I agree Darrin, the bassy sound is back, I can hear it more in my speakers now and it seems like they've tried to return to their roots on this one. One thing is the lyrics that stand out...less story telling (which I loved), but perhaps it's because I never "REALLY" got into it. Nevertheless, it's a decent CD to play while out on a fun drive.

I can hear alot of similar riff from "Ride the Lightning" and "Master" albums in some of the songs. Cyanide is kick ass as is That was Just Your Life. If this had came out instead of St Anger a few years ago, their fan base wouldn't have hauled ass like they did. It may be cruel to say, but James is best when he's totally in charge and a few brews to the wind. I saw them live not long after the release of St Anger and they were very mundane comapared to previous shows I've seen them play. Hopefully, if they come back my way, they'll play with the old energy they used to.

I disagree......
I think this album is a great fusion. I can hear some familiarities from ALL their albums, honestly. I'll catch myself one minute thinking: "Damn, that sounds like Master of Puppets." And 15 minutes later thinking: "Damn, that sounds like "And Justice for All." I fuggin LOOOOOOVE the new album!!!!! Maybe I'm easily pleased, but I really dig Death Magnetic.
