View Full Version : To coat or not to coat long-tubes

When I bought my Kooks long-tube headers I opted to not have them coated mainly because I'm freakin' cheap and didn't want to spend the extra $250 to get them coated. In reality though...it didn't seem the coating would be that beneficial anyways for performance. What's everyone think about spending the extra money to get long-tubes coated. The coated headers do look pretty though!!!!!

i got mine coated so i couldnt tell you what its like without them. supposedly it'll elevated the temps in your engine bay but i dont see that as a problem unless your hot lapping at the drag strip.
I got mine coated also. 1 for the heat benefit and 2 for looks.

I wasn't too worried about temps in the engine bay and I don't see myself hot-lapping at a strip very soon, unless I find a nasty ho who needs some nasty lovin!

Seems like almost everyone has gotten the coating, but like I said I don't think there's a real performance benefit from it though.

I had my Kooks coated and they do look pretty cool. One of the reasons I have heard that it is a good idea to coat them is because eventually the headers rust and may suck that rust back into the engine...when they're coated inside and out, that doesn't happen. It was actually Bruce from HHP who told me that. As for performance, I don't see it making a significant difference at the track...but it just adds to the package in some shape or form...I wouldn't be too concerned. Btw, I got it done for free when it was part of the special..

I wish I could've gotten a deal like that, but noone had any deals going on when I bought them. I spoke with a couple of vendors, but no luck. Oh well...to late now to worry about it. They still look good now. I can actually see them through the front wheel wells.

!))% PURE PRETTY MOD...
there has never ever been any proven benefit from doing anything to a header that gains power.
the increased flow is the ONLY THING that makes the power, if you want them to look pretty down the road then spend the money, if you are planning to receive some appreciable benefit from the coating, performance wise, then you are no better off then setting your money on fire just to get heat from the flames....

That's essentially what I was told...another reason, besides the money why I didn't get mine coated!

I know Kooks now makes a stepped header for the LX cars. These work well with the stroker motors, but are alittle too much for H/C/I cars like mine.

yeah, it sure looks purty. as far as rusting, if your headers are stainless then you shouldnt be having that problem.

mine are dynatech 1 7/8. i went with them because at the time kooks didnt have a 1 7/8 header for the lx's.

My Kooks are not coated for the simple reason of I'm too impatient. It was a couple weeks added to the delivery time. Fuck that
