On my way to gym tonight and really didn't want to go. So, I go the the gas station to get a quick dust off at the touchless carwash and it is closed. Damn! Anyway, as I am pulling through lot I see this White STI with red trim and gold brembos. I am halfway throught the lot and hear it fire up and rev a time or two. Sure enough, he pulls right behind me as I am exiting the lot and
pull up to the light to go right. He is right behind me. I can tell from his body language that he is gonna get on it. I wait to turn until both lanes ahead are clear and lightly accelerate in 1st as I look behind me. I see him jump on it directly behind me and I am in 1ast when he does this (1st & 2nd starts to loose traction up high in the rpm). I feather into second and floor it. He never comes up to my vision on my left until I just hit third with a chirp.
I had to let off cause we were approaching a light. I think 3rd is this cars sweet spot.

I was surprised that he made any ground up at all. So I slow down and he tells me he has 500 plus to the wheels and something or other about his boost level. I tell him his car is pretty darn quick. Surprised me! He then asks if he could get over into my lane so he could turn into the movie theatre. Oh, that is what you were trying to do....

So I am left trying to justify all this. Did he gain on me at all because my car is more geared for high end. Triple digits is where my beast excels? Did I hit second prematurely at around 8,000 rpm cause I was so worried about hitting the rev limiter like the past? Is his much less expensive car just a wicked beast. I found some comfort finally by thinking my car is a great vehicle all around. Best I could do for the moment.

Still would have liked to get his thoughts. He didn't say anything about my car. No compliments. :tantrum1:

Regardless that STI was fast. kudos

If that 500 is true...it would sound like an insane machine....he must have alot of work done...I know that the BMWs all excel in the upper mph zone...you have to do the right mods to gain more downlow...regardless, cool story..

All I know is that STI was not stock, or they are fast cars.

I will try and find another one. They are pretty plentiful around here.

Naa.....I don't know how fast you were going but when the STI's are built right they do move..Especially with the Rallye Racing that these cars are known for?

Here is something to think about...

You are cruising along at 140mph....comfortable, the car is soaking up the road and you are enjoying the car. The STI..is screaming, bone jarring as it races down the highway to maintain speed with you, You can hear EVERYTHING the car is doing.

I will never take anything away from an STI because they are fantastic...but seriously between the two? You got the better, more stable, faster (Ultimately) car, albeit safer too. AND....when you "Arrive" you pull up in style..he pulls up in his Fast and the Furious STI...

Think about what your wrote, you nailed the throttle..that dude did EVERYTHING to catch you.....besides BMW's are know for their high speed crusing...

Dude, it's not VERY difficult to make crazy horse from those STI's. A larger turbo, tune and fuel system makes some great power. There was a blue and gold one that used to go to the track where I go every weekend and was running consistent low 11's and doing hotlap after hotlap after hotlap. I was expecting the car to blow up seeing as he ran it sooo many times. Next time I'm there...he's at it again. Same way too. Good kill and your car is in an entirely different league all together.

I've raced my share of STI's and lightly modded they can be beaten fairly easy with a mildly modded car. Now...if they start running over 20+ lbs. of boost and are tuned they can be 11 second cars all day long and be a complete handful. Trust me Curtis...I'd rather be in a M6 anyday than be in a STI!!!

Thanks for your comments guys. I was just thinking that I spent alot of money for BMWs best sport coupe and then put 18m
(stuff is crazy expensive) into suspension, tune, intake, diff, and this 32m
mazda was hanging in there up to 3rd gear shift. Oh well, like you all said,
I'd rather have the m6 too. I'll find him again and go from a even start to really see what is happening here.

Everyone and their mom has an STI here...i have never been overwhelmingly impressed with them....

but they arent meant to drag...they are meant to kill you in a rally/road course
