View Full Version : How the Lingenfelter Mod Discussion with wife went

So,
I called the wife and told her I was at the cadillac dealership talking to my SA.
There was dead silence. After what seemed an eternity, I get, "what are you doing there again? I told her I was checking on her door handle that was ordered and being painted as we speak.
She blurts out, "I told that SA not to let you mod your CTS-V!!!!!!!":Disappointed_anim:.
I say, "but honey, love of my life, blah blah blah.....,
it is not his fault".
So, I get this brain storm. You guys know how wives come home with stuff they buy and you wanna blow your head off while she tells you what a great deal they got, I tell her
Honey, it was on sale! What a bargain. The dealership does the install and I am getting a loaner for free!
Oh ok then.
Seriously though guys, my wife said I know you if I said no, you would do it anyway right? I told her absolutely not, trust is important.
Bottom Line........ I got the best wife in the world and soon to have

Well done sir! :hatoff
My wife is 'kind' of like that except she adds, "well, you're gonna have to take it back" and then I say, "Oh no I don't". "Well, you're going to take that out of your mod fund". "Um, no I'm not". and on and on and on. Eventually, I break her down, give her some silent treatment, and then I'm good to go. My mileage varies though on the monetary issues. I'm returning my new laptop for example, (which I haven't done yet lol) and just bought an 1800+ one (up 600ish) and she wasn't too fond of that. More discussion to follow after work lol. :dur: :lulz: :pounding table: :obscene:
Oh, and I'll throw in a fib or two as well to get what I 'need' lolololol

This is great... :ROTFLMAO:
I went through this early on. Now, there is nothing to talk about. If the Jeep needs it the Jeep gets it!!

My wife and I are beyond any of that. I just go ahead and buy the shit and don't tell her about it. The less she knows about what and how much I'm spending the better we both are.LOL These days though....its just been very small stuff and I usually scrap up the money from OT.

That is what I do...the less I think she "knows" about the better. Bottom line she still knows we just don't talk about it ;)

So far, things are pretty good here as relates to "give & take".
Examples - I impulse buy a hot tub, my wife reacts by getting a personal trainer of similar value over a couple years, personal trainer soon becomes a friend and has other like-minded friends. Parties ensue - in the hot tub. Sweet deal.
She decides she wants to learn how to ride a motorcycle, I find her one then get one for myself too. Wife wants bigger bike, I get to look at new ones...sweet.
It's all give & take, lol - sadly at this point it ain't about cars, dammit! Modding a new CTS-V? That's the best option to have for sure!

Hmm, I haven't given much thought to just buying expensive shit and not even telling her about it when it's to come out of our joint accounts. Hmm. I can't see it boding very well though especially since we both equally look at the accounts, pay bills etc. Most of the time, I operate through my slush fund (my own account) which I get to do whatever I want with.

I drop it off tuesday at the dealership and they plan to remove and ship parts to Lingenfelter that evening. Once the parts arrive at LPE turnaround is 48 hours and then back out in the mail. I should have completed by end of the following week at the latest. I'll post up when done.:muhahaha:

My fiance hates the way I spend money...I never spend so that it hurts me, hell, I am always doing good for myself...but she hates that I will see something worth a pretty penny, like it, then buy it. She is a penny pincher...which will be good for both of us in the long run!

Steve,
I don't know about that. I should have waited for the V to come out before buying the 6er. The V was what I really wanted. As far as the decision to go with LPE, you guys and Wilson steered me in the right direction. After several discussions with Wilson, wait4me, Jeff at LPE, and the dealership, my decision was clear.

Matt, that is so true. Consider yourself very lucky. You got a good one!

I am definately looking forward to this. I have read several posts where the LPE package seriously causes problems. Traction problems. :grinyes:

Matt, I'm exactly like this and so is my wife. The balance is 'economically sound'. I'm by no means cheap but now that I'm older, I don't throw away money either...yet, I can still be impulsive. The wife is not cheap but she is more frugal with money and it works out very well. We never really argue about money, so that's important. You're in good hands my friend.
CLove....traction problems hehehehe. I'm guessing that's an understatement. We'll soon find out.

I did get pretty damn lucky! She will definitely put that chain on when needed! I do like that we are like this, like you Milan, we balance each other out!

Glad to hear you got the clearance from the tower Curtis. You can't beat a good wife. Mine told me to go buy a hotrod before the baby gets here. So I did ;-) Got married Aug 22nd and brought home the new toy exactly one week later. 68 Dodge Coronet 383/auto. While it's no V, its still a fun toy that I can enjoy with the wife and new baby when she gets here. BJB and his buddy came over on Sunday to look at it and his buddy asked " How the hell did you just get married and still manage to get this?" LOL

Wilson,
Sounds like you got an exceptional one! Wife and car. Nothing wrong with the Coronet 383 auto. Very strong motor that you can build on. Belated congrats on the new wife and auto. Post picks of your car if you can. I love
anything from the late 60s and early 70s. It was a glorious time for muscle cars!
Heh...she get's irritated when I spend $200 on replacing the worn out brakes on my SS, but then tries to talk me into buyin a pair of $170 Speery shoes...
It's all about priorities, and I haven't had much luck in changing hers yet. :(

Looks like you'll be spending a lot of time with the car after the baby is born due to your wife healing up from child birth and surgery.

Stevo,
you got that right! My guess is she played you like a fiddle. You spend $200 and she spends $500. Eh, whatever as long as your needs are being fulfilled, right?
Any way you slice it, it is a good deal for each of you.

Haven't dated a woman who hasn't been obsessed with shoes either. And those freakin' things can get pricey as hell. Granted, I always buy a quality shoe or running shoe but they last me more than a few times wearing them haha :lulz:
