So, on my way to work this morning, stuck behind some old fart in a 90's Suburban who is idling through the intersection, get an open spot, and pass him. This is a 3 lane wide road, 45MPH limit. Coasting along at 50 and coming up to the light in the middle lane, see that the left lane only has one car, and what is that car..... a brand new Porsche Panamera 4S. I gently tuck in behind him, give the gas a little blip to alert him of my presence and he aknowledges with a hand out the window and a thumbs up. Sweet, its ON!!!
Light turns green, he rolls out then MASH!!! This flood of noise from his exhaust combined with my tires fighting to grab the road while the supercharger whines for mercy and the exhaust spits out a nice grunt...i have no traction, it's a lost cause. He moves into the middle lane, I coast up to him coming to the next light and I can see him grinning from ear to ear in his sideview mirror.
I stop next to him, look over and hear "Nice car, love the red!" to which I respond with a shake of the head and "no, my car is OK, you have the NICE car...absolutely gorgeous!" We chat briefly, and wait patiently for the light. I fix my eyes on the green, wiggle the shifter a few times and ease it into first with a satisfying notch....
GREEN!!!! We are off again, my tires spinning, but doing better than last time, i'm at his rear bumper when I finally get some traction in second and he lets off instantly...I think the whine of the blower scared him....alas, I still have not beat him. We get to another red light, I shake my head and complement him on the car. He tells me the same and we chat some more.
Super nice older guy, asked me if I ever tracked the car, told me to look into BMW and their events at Road America (which I already know about) and we go our separate ways with a wave and a thumbs up!
Made my day, even though I lost. He spent 110K plus, I spent 24.....lol, can't really complain. With that much money into a mustang, I could show him where to stick his Porsche! :hehe3:
