I can't decide which one gears to get, keeping in mind it's my daily driver from spring until beginning of winter. Not sure if the 3.23 will make much of a difference having a stock 3.06 but am assuming that running a 3.23 gear with the 17" DR's should make for a nice run down the track. Anyone hear of people running these yet in the LX SRT8's?

Not that this helps, but I'm sticking with the stock gears for a while. As is, when I'm doing 80mph on the highway, I'm at about 2500 rpms. Plus getting the car to hook is already an issue w/o the gear change.

What's the dif between the LX's final trans gear ratio & tire dia, compared to the Jeep? The Jeep has 3.73's & they don't feel too low.

My racing buddy went out and put the 355 gears on his Charger... He is just a blink of an eye slower in the 1/4. He has run 11.52 @ 118. He has consistant 60Ft's being he has the upgraded shafts and the quaife. So for the track we shall see ... as soon as the season starts back up.
Using him for the test guinea.....as I am curious as we both have the 426 so we have tons of torque. He has the quaife so putting the the ground is not an issue. I will be looking at if he is able to hook better and gain any mph at ET.

I really can't help ya HEMI, but you know I always have an oppinion!
I put YUKON 4.11s on my daily driven Cobra and absolutely loved them. It made first gear kinda useless, but DAMN!!
Good luck...

I'm with ya on this one. Taller gears just doesn't make sense to me on a pretty modified car on street tires where traction is at premium as it is. It make a great track mod though with sticky tires though. I'll probably never buy these.

I was thinking the same thing myself. I already have too much power that I can't use with street tires. Why make the situation more comical. Next thing I'll have Scions beating me from a standstill as I smoke the tires.
This might be a good mod for a stock 6.1

Ok...I want to add to the fun here.
Back when LT1's were the hotshit in performance cars. (That was 93-97 for those that don't realize that...lol) excluding the 93 LT1 (Speed density car with different tranny ratios) Auto guys were wanting to upgrade their stock 3.23 gears (in a 4spd auto) to a steeper gear like a 3.73 gear. Oh the car was bad ass out of the hole but damn on the highway it sucked bad...REALLY bad..
Then some folks thought that the 3.42 gear (stock in a 6spd car) would be the best of both worlds. And I honestly can't think of anyone who did it, but I think the consensus was it wasn't worth it over the 3.23 gears.
So with saying that if your car had 2.76 gears the upgrade was going to 3.23 and folks that made that jump were very happy. Because it was a significant jump for them. But the car remained 100% driveable even going down the highway...
So with all that crap I just said...if you are going to make a switch I would think that 3.23 would be as steep as you would want to go and still be able to drive it at speed without worrying about revving it to high etc..
Plus 3.23 gears were THE gear for the Mopar 3spd Auto cars back in the day.
Now I wonder are...you MORE confused or more curious!!? :fun_84:
Milan,
DynoSteve gave me this great slide rule power calculator. I will show it to you this weekend. It may answer your question.

Wow this was hashed over on LXF.
I tried the 3.55 gear with 17 inch and 18 inch, BFG, M/T and Hoosier DRs. They all were too short < 26 inches tall on a 426 N/A Charger. My 426 300 was used as a comparison. Out of the hole 3.55s will help with launching as we averaged 1.65 or better and picked up 1mph on the 1/8 mile. The problem was that 3.55 geared Charger was shifting into 4th gear with the short DR's and the mph on the 1/4 dropped 3-4 mph. Went then switched to a 20 inch NITTOs. Of course the NITTOS sucked so there was no traction. We found an 28 inch tall DR M&H 325/45/17s so we tried those. The results were we ended up with a best ever 1.56 60 ft and a 11.48 @ 116 ET.
Even though we achieved a very good results we felt with the 3.55 gears on a N/A car was giving up alot. On one of the runs my stock 3.06 gears ran a 1.61 60 ft and a 11.41 @ 120. The 3.55 geared Charger would have a better 60ft but after the 1/8 mile mark the stock geared car would pull away.
Also the stock geared car stayed in 3rd gear with the 28 inch M&H 325/45/17 DRs while the 3.55 gear even with the 28 inch DR was still shifting into 4th.
For those that have power added ( N02 & S/C) the 3.55 gears may be good as the gear will allow for great launches and then the Power adder should help compensate for the short gearing allowing to stay on top RPM.

No, it's actually very informative and something InferAl pm'd me about. If you figure in that most of the LX guys run a 17 or 18" drag wheel with the tire it makes even more of a significant difference. I don't think they're worth the trouble.

Very interesting...I'm curious how much of a difference it really is by shifting into 4th since it's what nobody wants to do. On the 17" wheels, I was shifting pretty damn close to the finish.

Let me update this a bit. As I now been running with the 3.55's for quite a bit now.
A. you will lose mph . I went from averaging 120 mph in the quarter to now btween 116-118 mph.
B. With the 3.55 gear and a TALL Stall ( I have a PI 3600) and DRAG SLICKS your 60 FTS will improve. my best 60Ft has been a 1.54 on the M&H 325 and a 1.53 on the Hoosier Drag Slicks.
C. I have decreased my ET down to 11.409 due to my 60Fts dropping.
D. 3.55 gears will decrease your overall mph so if you are thinking about setting the land speed record out on the street... going over 160 mph may be tough....if not a limiter..

ujokin. I believe bmc has like a 3.92 now too. whatcha think? I cant get into the math like you do with the d/rs and gearing, its never been my thing. I know stock on stock 18's my car kept wanting to shift into 4th within the last 20ft or so which was pretty retarded. Either limit out or shift and waste time shifting as you hit the lights. I havent had the issue on my cammed motor with 20's since i've increased the red line just enough to stay on in third gear but i'm assuming when the nitrous setup is finished i'm gonna be right back into the issue again. Then trying to decide between some 17" drags from hhp or some 18" cobras from work on stock gears (aint got 2g's for that crap yet) will be the next thing i'll probably hit your opinion about

James is now running the 3.92 Getrag for awhile now. I'm assuming he likes this set-up the best so far since he has hit 1.4x 60's and hit 10.9x in the 1/4.

Actually...I read about this on LXforums a few weeks ago when he finally hit the 10's. He's not here to much, but stops by every once in awhile.
