i'm starting to like the idea of one more and more. on one hand we have the ultima gtr, a kit car. you can get the entire car (unassembled) minus an engine and tranny (which is actually pretty cool) for around 30 grand. once you throw it together you have a record breaking car worth over 100k depending on what setup you go with. you can also make it street legal if it already isn't. part of me says "this car is awesome, get it", and part of me knows that i'll fall into the trap that i'm already in: nothing but impractical street cars that do all street racing and see no track time, nothing to actually haul crap around in...or even able to drive over a speed bump for that matter.

the OTHER side of me would LOVE to have an open wheeled track only car which is cheaper to purchase, probably more fun and would also cost less long run because it won't see street use.
a few examples:

anybody have any experience or know anybody with any experience in either of these types of cars? im not finding TOO much online, especially about owning and operating an open wheeled car.
thoughts?
opinions?
suggestions?

think of it like this though:
i've spent about 30k for mods in the 300, not to mention the price of the car itself. it doesn't come close to any of those cars that sell for what i paid in mods alone. not only that, but a couple of those cars have pretty simple 4cylinder engines in them. i think owning and modding our cars like we have is a more expensive hobby than owning any of these cars (except the ultima) and in a lot of ways less fun and gratifying.

I'd rock the shit out of the 2nd open wheel, the only thing I wouldn't like about it is some asshole runnin into me and my car flyin to pieces...with me in it...seems like the slightest little accident and you at least lose a wheel or two....they're still bad ass for little 4 bangers!!!

Someone that has worked with sheet metal a lot shouldn't have any trouble replicating the body parts..... but like mike said, it could get expensive...
