I totally remember reading about the sledgehammer. Around the same time, Mercedes had a really quick tuner car as well...can't remember it's name. Now, the sledgehammer looks a bit ugly to me lol...with those 17's and stuff.

I hate to say it, but damn...its kind of ugly. It's a badass car performance wise, but those wheels and body kit look like shit! If I offend anyone with this comment you can kiss my :moon1: Hahahaha...J/K
those wheels and body kit look like shit!
It does look dated but you would not have made the same comments back in 1988. That's basically the same looking style wheels the F40 had...

There is a bunch of debate over who actually built the engine in the Sledgehammer Corvette I know for a fact that John Lingenfelter actually provided Callaway with some twin turbo engines for this vehicle. Callaway claims they were all blown up during testing but those in the know (i.e they were there) tell me it was still powered by one if the Lingenfelter engines.
Reeves Callaway tried to set the record but didn't make it over ~230mph. John felt the car had more in it so he put on his fire jacket and took the car on the track. This record was set with no rollcage, no halon system, not trans blanket (sorry Bri), no fire suit, just a fire jacket over his T-shirt, jeans and sneakers! Talk about Ballsy! But that was JL... Don't talk about it, just do it!

BTW, I beleive the Snake Skinner is going up for sale at Barret Jackson this week. GM is thinning out the cars at it's Heritage Museum and I beleive I saw that on the list of cars going up for auction. Reggie Jacksons 69 Camaro, Bill Clintons Presidential Limo and the Popemobile are all on the list too :-)
