Hahaha...funny...no, wait, sad, no funny, no, fucking really sad...yeah, pathetic really. If those particular dudes were non-union workers with hard working, observant bosses, they'd be on the street. Not stereo typing because most people work hard but that lot, pfft.

American autoworkers at their best!LOL Imagine what the autoplants were like 20-30 years ago...no wonder American cars weren't as reliable as the Japs.

I worked at Chrysler's Newark Assy Plant for 10 years so allow me to play Devils Advocate here. While I'm not condoning the actions of these folks but consider this. You work on an assembly line, on your 8 hour shift you run 400 vehicles. You do the same thing to every job that passes by and you do it 400 times a day...every day. How long do you think it would take for you to "almost literally" do this job with your eyes closed. Trust me, it doesn't take long for you to be able to do your job while basically being mentally on auto pilot. Now every day you have 2 beers for lunch. Since you have 2 beers every day for lunch do you get drunk? Do you even get buzzed to any extent that really matters? Since you drink this amount every day your body has become tolerant to the amount you consume. Then after lunch you go back to the same mundane job that you do 400 times....every day. Do you really think this person is unable to do that job?

I dont know. You ever been around a master floor layer? You ever been around a master floor layer on weed ? (Best Jon Stewart impression) Seriousely, Some people get in the zone after a quick hit and end up with one track minds and literally produce better. Never been inside an automotive plant myself, so don't know if being in the zone applies- but would prolly install some cameras !!

Probably not. I know 2 beers doesn't do much of anything to me. On the other hand...I'm sure the workers over at the plants in Japan, Korea, Germany, etc. don't do this on the job. How much drinking or doing drugs on the job and how it affects the final product build is something that can't really be measured. If anything...it doesn't sit well with the majority of the American public when things like this come into the spotlight and makes American cars suspect as to their quality and reliability. I personally don't have a problem with it as long as they can do the job compentently. Alittle FYI Bob...as you know, the UofD bought the Chrysler plant and I work for the UofD. Decommissioning and disasembly of the plant will be starting soon. I've been in the plant a few times now and I really wish I was able to see it when cars were being built there. Too bad I missed that opportunity.

I worked summers full-time at Chryslers and this has been going on for DECADES! Don't kid yourself, it occurs in ALOT of different manufacturing companies. It happens at GM and FORD and TOYOTA and HONDA. They just haven't been stupid enough to get caught and there wasn't some reporter out there with a hard-on for them.

Anyways, more of a discussion here with my thoughts.

Like I said guys my post was just some food for thought, I'm not pointing fingers to say right or wrong. Here's another consideration about the building of "high end cars" and Germany specifically. Beer is the national drink. Beer is on the menu at McDonald's, if you are old enough to pick up a beer you are allowed to drink it. You can literally have a beer with your Happy Meal. While stationed in Stuttgart in the Army I toured the Porsche factory. From what I understand it is not uncommon for the German auto worker to enjoy a cold one while at lunch".:beerchug: Yet the Germans are known for excellent build quality?!?!?

So why are American auto's perceived as having poor build quality?

Of course anytime your in a manufacturing situation your are gonna have X% of your employees who do shit work. Those folks aside I will say that American auto workers catch more shit than they deserve. It has become way to common in this country to point fingers at the folks in the trenches busting their asses everyday for thankless employers. The real problem with American autos and build quality is in the engineering. Everyone wants to save those pennies and produce shit so they can get a bigger bonus while pointing fingers at the blue collar crowd about doing low quality work. If I bolt a part on a car 400 times a day, that's all I did was bolt in on. I didn't have any say in the quality of that parts' construction or design. If it's a quality part I look like a hero. If it's a POS, then I get blamed. Sad but true.

Case in point. The 2007/2008 Shelby's have clutch issues. Who is responsible for this? The Ford auto worker or Ford Motor Company? I assure you the Ford auto workers have already heard a speech about "we need to do a better job etc..." when all they did was assemble the parts that were supplied to them.

Pax I heard UoD bought the plant. It'll be interesting to see what they find when they start digging up and removing the plant. God only knows what's underneath! All those years the plant was open before there were laws about dumping fluids in the ground and such. Yikes!

:beerchug:^^^^Well said Bob! They're going to build several buildings on the old Chrysler site with this area being a big part of the UofD. It'll take many years to complete, but it'll be interesting to see how it all turns out.

What is UoD gonna built on the old Chrysler site? Any word on that yet?

I believe there's going to be some engineering bldgs. and some buildings with ties to the Health Care Alliance. There will be some stores with some housing units on the top floors along where the railroad tracks are. I've seen some preliminary plans, but that can change. Supposedly, they'll start taking down the parts wharehouse first and work their way back along the site.

^^^ LMAO.

I don't agree with it either. I mean, just wait until after work...you'll enjoy it more. I think they do it because they're bored out of their fuckin' skulls on the line and they can do the job blindfolded...especially after a decade of being on the same job. Still, work=sober, home=rock out with your cock out wasted
It's better that way lol.
