Chrysler made waves earlier today when it announced the company would have an armada of 35 vehicles on display at this year's SEMA show, but the star of the shindig is likely to be the new 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392.

While no one has ever accused the Challenger SRT8 of being light on grunt, Chrysler engineers have taken things up a notch or two with a new 6.4-liter V8 that produces 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, all while delivering 15-20 percent better fuel economy than the outgoing 6.1-liter V8 in the 2010 Challenger SRT8. The big V8 uses variable valve timing and cylinder deactivation to help keep consumption low.

The Challenger SRT8 392 also employs a reworked suspension with even firmer shocks, a quicker steering ratio and more negative camber than before, all of which are supposed to help the hefty muscle bruiser tackle the corners with a little more finesse.

Up front, there's a unique chin spoiler that helps channel air to the vehicle's radiator and provide additional downforce at higher speeds. It also just looks pretty dang sharp.

Chrysler says it will build just 1,492 inaugural editions of the Challenger SRT8 392, and that the cars will be available to buy right after Thanksgiving. Hit the jump for the full model-specific press release.

That is until you compare it to the other pony cars that will STILL have more power.:BS_flag

I'm hoping that Dodge is really fudging those HP numbers, cause 470 HP at the crank isn't going to cut it. Hell...I'll spank it with my car if that's the case. Let's hope that its 470RWHP instead!

I don't understand why they can't just slap a vortech/procharger/kenne bell (or a V10 Viper motor) on there from the factory, give it 600hp and a warranty, and call it a day??!?!?!?!?!?! Seems to be working just fine for Ford and GM!!!!!!!!!!

But then again, WE are kinda bitches.....look at us complaining about a 470hp car......boo-fuggin-hoo.....

Haha!

470 crank HP isn't bad, just not great considering the Mustang GT500 is lighter AND has 80 more HP. Yes 80

They don't want to increase the price so high, this is just a 2011 model (stock engine). And this engine is ready for a supercharge.

Well, I'm hoping it's underrated. I believe the crate 392 made 550 or was it 500? Can't remember right now but they've added VVT and the MDS. I am fond of that blue though.

crate motor shows 525, but read an article that after long durability testing, Chrysler detuned it and walked it down to the 470 number we keep hearing about. It may be slightly under rated, but its not going to be better than 505 I would guess. Blue car does look good.

Hopefully they detuned it through tuning, exhaust size, etc. to bring down the numbers. If that's the case, a few mods will bring that HP back up nicely. Does anyone know if this 392 has all forged components???

Haven't heard anything about forged components but I'll assume the crank is. Now that would be a HUGE plus if the pistons, connecting rods etc were forged.
