If 470 horsepower is fun, 570 raging stallions can be positively evil. Rumor has it that Chrysler thinks so too, and the automaker plans to unveil an optional tier of SRT vehicles with upgraded powerplants. Later in the year, the Dodge Charger SRT8 and Chrysler 300 SRT8 will reportedly be available with an Eaton-sourced supercharger that will up output to somewhere in the 540-570-horsepower range.

The option (which could possibly come in kit form to be installed at the dealer) will be offered on 2013 model year cars, and, if the rumor holds true, it comes with another upgraded feature to help meter out the extra go-fast energy. Chrysler will fit the four door sports cars with an eight-speed automatic transmission. We sure hope this all pans out.

Currently, this super extra only applies to the SRT vehicles riding on the LX platform. That means the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 isn't slated to get the upgrade. The Dodge Challenger rides on a modified LX platform known as the LC, but rumor has it the power boost will be available for that model as well.

The only issue I see is that they've put a strangle hold on tuning for the new 2012 cars. What may come out of this is that maybe they'll offer different stage packages like they did for the SRT4 back in the day and keep the tuning/money in house and away from aftermarket vendors. 570HP is nice, but for the money that it'll cost for a S/C SRT8 from the factory, it would probably be cheaper to modify a 2011 model with a S/C and have the aftermarket support for it and make more power. We'll see what happens.

And if it would only come in a 6 speed manual? Then you would have something to really talk about.

They better do something because there new lineup is overpriced and under performs BIG TIME!

$57k for a 300 SRT8? $65k for a Jeep SRT8?

Eat a dick Chryco.

Who's running the show at this place, seriously are they trying to go out of business and have us the tax payers bail them out again??

First off if this happens, and it sounds like it probably will, it'll be for 2013 models, not for '12s. Second, I can only imagine how much it'll cost. Aftermarket blowers are already around 5-8K for these cars, this thing as an OEM option is gonna be 10K easy, not to mention dealers really jacking up prices on them. SRTs are already way too expensive so I don't get all excited at this prospect. And yea they'll probably offer a blower package through Mopar for the same 10 grand for '11 and '12 392s, that would be smart to spread their costs around.

Pax ... you're right except '11s have the same locked PCMs as '12s (you probably already know that now, I know that post was old).

Marky ... I don't believe the Challenger SRT8 has ever been considered a good bang for the buck. If anything the Mustang owns that title and always has. What's scary is the Challenger is now the cheapest of ALL the SRTs yet it's way too expensive. That's not good imo.
