View Full Version : Crankcase Vent

So, I'm trying to clean up my engine bay. I would love to remove the hose leading from the crank case back to my K&N intake.
I have a crank case vent filter to intall. Sounds easy enough:
However, some guy at an auto parts store (who probably knows NOTHING about SRT8s) said that my car will run like crap, if I remove that hose. Now, I have seen A LOT of pics on A LOT of forums of said vents. HAMMER even offers a vent that matches their intake filter.
What gives????
Any input on this???
Thanks,

i know some very knowledgeable guys that use the filter instead of the hose. offers no gains or losses, just a different look.

The vent will go where the top arrow is. I'll plug the FIPK intake pipe at the second arrow.

That's what I thought brutha! All I am shooting for is the different look!

Yeah, your auto parts guy is an idiot. He probably thinks that you're trying to put it on the PCV side, not the intake side. If you're putting it on the driver's side vent, you'll be fine.

I've seen a few go that route with no problems at all.

Well, I bought one at NAPA for 10 bucks, but they also had them at SCHUCKS and other auto parts stores. (It looks like a little mini K&N!)
As far as the hole in the intake goes, good question!!

You guys could use those little colorfull plastic vacuum caps. They usually run about 03 - 05 cents each.
Edit: Found a link for you guys http://www.carparts.com/50-PC-VACUUM-CAP-KIT/GP_2008033_N_111+10718+600022399_10618.car

As Marcus pointed out there is no benefit other than aesthetic in the case of the LX. That said there is a need for breather filters in certain situations.
ITG makes a quality piece you can check them out here.

While you are there check the Maxogen line of filters. These will be featured with our kits.
Hope this helps.
