I've heard of quite a few folks with SRT8 Jeeps removing the resonators, well I've been lazy and haven't looked, so whats the skinny on this? Do you need replacement pipe (s) or is it jjust something that unbolts ? Any help / pics are appreciated.

I'm not sure??? Iv heard of removing the cat's, that requires the "off road pipe";) But it sure sounds like anything that will be removed will need some pipe back in it's place.

Yeah if you cut the resonators out you will need to replace that part with about a 10" straight pipe on both sides.

It would be a lot easier and less painfull to go with an aftermarket exhaust instead of chopping the stocker.

What he said, also an aftermarket exhaust will sound better, perform better, and flow better then the restricting stock exhaust.

yes its cheaper, but you're only gaining sound and dropping some weight

I did resonators and a flowmaster 40 series. I did gain some time in the 1/4, minimal, but some. Went from a 13.4 stock to a 13.12 with the exhaust and a k&n drop in.

I replaced the double wall with 3" piping, kept the stock cats and installed a Magnaflow X-Pipe muffler and replaced the resonators with 3" piping and it sounds SICK!!! I went from 13.5 mpg to 14.4 with this setup and SOP feels great on the HWY. I probably saved 800.00 with this setup and have probably just as good performance with the x-pipe muffler and the perfect sound. The Magnaflow x-pipe muffler alone is actually quiter than the stock muffler so that is why I removed the resonators. I paid 119.00 for the muffler and 125.00 for the install
